Raipur: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar today
said that the international community should jointly take
strong measures to counter the growing menace of terrorism.
"Peace and stability are major pre-requisites for
development. But unfortunately the menace of terrorism has
emerged as a grave threat to democracy, attacking its very
foundation and affecting stability," Kumar said at the fourth
India and Asia region Commonwealth Parliamentary Association
"The incidents of terror in different parts of the world
underline the necessity for a joint stern action by the
international community," she said.
Terrorism is no more bound by international borders and
distance is not a factor when it comes to an act of terror,
the Speaker said, adding India, in particular, has suffered
from terrorism sponsored from across the border.
Kumar also pointed out that terrorism and Naxalism not
only hit the political stability or integrity of the country
but also affect daily life of the people, which in turn affect
the process of development.
