Jaipur depot fire: Eight IOC officials get bail

A local court today granted bail to eight of the nine IOC officials arrested and sent to judicial custody earlier this month in connection with the devastating fire at the company`s fuel depot which had killed 11 people.

Jaipur: A local court today granted bail
to eight of the nine IOC officials arrested and sent to
judicial custody earlier this month in connection with the
devastating fire at the company`s fuel depot here which had
killed 11 people.

Sessions Judge K S Bhatnagar, who granted bail to the
eight IOC officials, however, rejected the bail plea of Ashok
Gupta, the operation officer of the company as he was present
at the depot when the fire occurred in October last year, a
senior investigating police official said.

Eight months after the inferno, the state police had
arrested nine senior company officials including its General
Manager for the state Gautam Bose on charges of criminal
negligence on July 2 under various sections of the IPC
including 304-II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder)
and sent to 15 days` judicial custody the following day.

Section 304-II of IPC carries a maximum prison term of
10 years.

Eleven persons were killed and 45 injured in the fire
that was attributed to human error by an expert group headed
by former Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL)
Chairman M B Lal.
