Jaitley cites Kasab case to highlight need for POTA

The Ajmal Kasab trial would not have taken so long had the anti-terror law POTA been in force, the BJP said on Friday.

Mumbai: The Ajmal Kasab trial would not
have taken so long had the anti-terror law POTA been in force,
the BJP said on Friday.

"Congress-led UPA Government should reinstate Prevention
of Terrorism Act (POTA). Had it been in force today, the
statement of only terrorist arrested in 26/11 case, would have
become evidence itself," senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said.
Jaitley, addressing a public meeting for BJP candidate
Raj Purohit contesting from Colaba in south Mumbai, sought to
know what intelligence agencies like IB and RAW were doing
when the Mumbai attack was planned in Pakistan and the
terrorists did recce of the city.

Lashing out at the Government over the Ishrat Jahan
encounter case of Gujarat, Jaitley said "the Centre itself in
its affidavit five years back had said that those killed in
the encounter belonged to LeT terrorist organisation".
"But with an eye on vote bank, the Government filed a
revised affidavit in the Gujarat High Court," the former law
minister claimed.

Jaitley also cornered the UPA over the Parliament attack
case, saying it could not execute the death penalty awarded to
Afzal Guru, responsible for the terror act.
