Patna: Consul General of Japan, Fuzio
Samukawa on Thursday lamented that business houses of his country
had no presence in Bihar where the GDP has registered a growth
rate of 11.03 per cent.

Samukawa said despite business ties between the two
countries being "very good", poor investments had been made by
Japanese companies in the eastern states of Bihar, West Bengal
and Orissa.

The Consul General, who had an hour-long meeting with
Nitish Kumar, later told reporters that he had invited the
Bihar Chief Minister to visit Japan.

The Japanese envoy said the country`s investment was
booming in the western part of India but the presence of
Japanese firms was almost nil in the eastern side.

However, Samukawa said, "No investment proposal was
discussed during the meeting with the Chief Minister."

A project to improve the Buddhist circuit in the state
is in the offing thereby generating some hope of investment,
particularly in road sector, he said.
