Jaya-Sonia meet has no political significance: Vasan

Describing the meeting between Sonia Gandhi and Jayalalitha as "of no political significance," Vasan on Wednesday asserted the "winning combination" of Cong-DMK would continue in 2011 TN Assembly elections also.

Tirunelveli (TN): Describing the meeting
between AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and AIADMK leader Jayalalitha
as "of no political significance," Union Shipping Minister G K
Vasan on Wednesday asserted the "winning combination" of Congress-DMK
would continue in 2011 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections also.

"It is only a courtesy meeting and has no political
significance," Vasan, a former TNCC president, told reporters
reacting to reports on Jayalalithaa meeting Gandhi and
exchanging greetings during the Election Commission`s Diamond
Jubilee celebration in Delhi on Monday.

Pointing out that UPA combination had emerged victorious
in Tamil Nadu in the 2004 and 2009 Parliamentary Elections
and the 2006 assembly polls, he said the alliance`s winning
spree would continue in the 2011 assembly elections also.

The meeting between Jayalalithaa and Gandhi, first in the
last 11 years, has given rise to speculations of a thaw in the
relations between the two.

Vasan said since alliance parties headed the governments
at the Centre and state, the policies and schemes announced by
UPA Government were being implemented in Tamil Nadu in true
spirit, leading to "huge" fund flow from the former.

On Rs 2,400 crore Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project,
dredging work for which at Adam`s Bridge area had been
suspended following a Supreme Court order, he said government
was hopeful of a "good verdict" and the dream project of the
people would be fulfilled at the earliest.
