Chennai: AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday pressed the Indian government to move the UN against Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa for "war crimes and genocide" after the world body's report on civilian casualties during the ethnic strife.

The UN report, Jayalalithaa said, "made mincemeat of the Lankan government?s claim that it had conducted a humanitarian rescue operation with a zero civilian casualty policy."

Jayalalithaa demanded that Rajapaksa be tried for war crimes and genocide, "along with his generals and senior ministers who were party to the brutal excesses."

Referring to Rajapaksa's statement that the report could prove to be a hindrance to reconciliation that was under way, she said the "Sri Lankan Government did its best to see that this report did not see the light of day."

"India can no longer remain a silent spectator," said the AIADMK leader and added, "If necessary, an economic blockade will have to be resorted to bring a recalcitrant Sri Lanka to heel."

The UN report on the Lankan civil war released in New York on Monday said most of the civilians lost their lives during shelling by Sri Lankan troops in the final stages of the war with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in 2009. The UN panel estimated 40,000 people were killed in the conflict.

India has collaborated with the Sri Lankan regime in committing genocide and war crimes against Tamils.

MK Narayanan, Shiv Shankar Menon, Vijay Nambiar, Satish Nambiar (all are Malayalees) and other Indian leaders are alleged to have committed crimes against humanity. Tamils may charge these leaders for alleged collaboration in genocide in the ICC and in the UK.

India while boasting democracy, alleged to have committed unspeakable crimes.

India has an opportunity to redeem its image as a great nation, heir to a magnificent ancient civilisation that taught the world so much.

The time has come for India to stand back, forgive the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, - anyway, the people most sought by the Indian Government have been killed - isolate the Rajapakse regime and do all within its power to bring to justice the Rajapakse brothers and their minions who slaughtered thousands of hapless Tamils in defiance of international appeals for mercy and the Rules of War.

There should imposed be an immediate travel ban on Mahinda Rajapakse, and the Indian PM should no longer host this genocidist at any event in India pt for when he is to be tried for war crimes.
