Bhopal: JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav on Saturday asserted that there can be no talks with the Centre on ending the current logjam in the Parliament unless the decision to allow FDI in retail is rolled back.

"No talks can be held with the government until the proposal for FDI in retail is rolled back," Yadav told PTI on his arrival here for participating in a function tomorrow.

The JD(U) chief was responding to the question on the current logjam in the Parliament.

Sources close to the JD(U) president said West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee discussed the FDI issue with Yadav over phone when he was coming from the airport.

Meanwhile, in a sudden turn of events Banerjee, whose party is strongly opposed to government's move to allow FDI in retail, made an announcement in Kolkata today that a decision on the issue has been "suspended" by the Centre.

The Trinamool chief said that Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee informed her over the telephone that the FDI decision has been "suspended".

"It is not temporary...until and unless consensus is evolved, the issue (decision on FDI in retail) is suspended," she told reporters in Kolkata.

The Finance Minister, however, declined to speak on the subject saying any official word on this will be made only in Parliament.

Congress party does not even consult its partners but just pushes such important decisions through the throat of the nation. If these foreign companies build such important infrastructure (in retail), it means they will aslo own them for as long as they want to and can raise prices etc whenever they like to.
