JD(U) nominates OBC leader, ex-bureaucrat for RS seats

New Delhi: A prominent OBC leader and a former bureaucrat are the JD(U) nominees for the Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar, a party release said on Wednesday.

While Upendra Kushwaha is a prominent OBC leader of Koiri community, which has a sizeable population in Bihar, Ram Chandra Prasad Singh was the Principal Secretary of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Singh, popularly known as RCP in the bureaucratic circle of Bihar is an IAS officer from Uttar Pradesh cadre. He took voluntary retirement for contesting the Rajya Sabha seat.

The JD(U), with 82 MLAs in the state, is likely to win two of the five Rajya Sabha seats, which are going to polls on June 17. Forty one votes are required to win a seat in the state assembly.
