Jet strike: Reinstate sacked pilots, persists union

Capt Girish Kaushik, president of NAG, said that that the union was ever willing to talk to the Jet management to sort the issue, but their demand asking for the reinstatement of sacked pilots remains nonnegotiable.

New Delhi: Capt Girish Kaushik, president of the National Aviators Guild (NAG), said that that the union was ever willing to talk to the Jet management to sort the issue, but their demand asking for the reinstatement of sacked pilots remains nonnegotiable.

The pilots’ union president also claimed that they had yesterday announced withdrawal of the strike and if pilots are not reporting on duty today, they are doing so out of their own will.

Speaking to a news channel, he said, “There is no ego problem with us. If the management calls, I am willing to go to them to sort out the issue.”

“They (Jet management) had said verbally that there will reinstate the sacked pilots but when I asked them to give in writing, they said, come to us and accept some conditions,” he quipped.

When asked when the protest will end, Kaushik said, “I have promised there would be no trouble by the guild and we don’t demand anything except the reinstatement of the pilots. They should come half way.”

The union, which claims representation of over 650 of the over 1,000 pilots in Jet Airways, had given a strike call from midnight to protest the sacking of two senior pilots.

Jet had last month terminated the services of two of its senior-most pilots after the two along, with others, formed a trade union body in the company.
