Jodhpur defence land scam: Antony orders probe

An alleged scam involving the defence land in Jodhpur, has come to light, prompting the Defence Minister AK Antony to order a probe.

New Delhi: An alleged scam to the tune of over
Rs 15 crore, involving the defence land in Jodhpur, has come
to light, prompting the Minister A K Antony to order a probe
into it.

The role of a top official of the Defence Estate is under
the scanner in the inquiry to be conducted by an Additional
Secretary rank officer, sources told PTI here today.

According to allegations, a defence land of 4.84 acre was
transferred to a private trust belonging to a royal family of
Jodhpur in 2007.
The plot of land, located in the heart of the city, is
now being developed for commercial purposes and is worth Rs 15
crore, the sources said.

They said Antony gave orders for the probe soon after the
allegations came to light as he is of the strong view that
there should be no cover up.

The role of a top official of the Defence Estates will be
particularly looked into by the probe panel, the sources said.

If the wrong-doing is confirmed by the in-house probe,
the ministry will order a CBI investigation into the case,
they said.
The new alleged scam comes after Adarsh, Sukna and
Srinagar land scandals, which are already being probed by the
CBI.
