Varanasi: Accusing the Centre of being "insensitive" towards people's anger against Delhi gang-rape incident, BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Thursday hit out at the UPA government for not convening Parliament's special session to discuss on need for stringent anti-rape laws.
"Immediately after the horrific incident, our party had demanded a special session of the Parliament, but the Central government did not pay any heed to it," Joshi alleged.
Apparently suggesting that the political class too needed to change its outlook towards women, Joshi condemned incidents of a Haryana minister allegedly terming suicide victim Geetika Sharma a servant of Gopal Kanda and a TMC leader throwing money on dancers in West Bengal.
"The Election Commission should take steps to keep all those indulged in crime against women out of the political process. Parties too must make sure that they don't field such candidates in elections," Joshi said.
Such horrific incidents are not only a law and order issue, but also show a cultural degradation of the society, Joshi observed.
He further said he won't have any objection if an anti-rape law is enacted in the name of the Delhi victim as a mark of respect to her.
On law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, the local MP alleged whenever the Samajwadi Party comes to power, incidents of crime shoot up in the state.
