Justice Usha Mehra becomes full-time member of Law Commission

Justice Usha Mehra had headed a commission to probe lapses on part of authorities in the December 16 gang-rape case.

New Delhi: Justice Usha Mehra, who headed a commission to probe lapses on part of authorities in the December 16 gang-rape case, was on Thursday appointed as full-time member of the Law Commission.

Bijai Narain Mani, eminent law author, and Gurjeet Singh, the director general of the National Law School and Judicial Academy Assam, were appointed part-time members of the panel.

Their tenure will be till August, 2015 when the term of the 20th Law Commission ends.

The panel, which advices government on complex legal issues, is headed by Justice D K Jain, former judge of the Supreme Court.

Justice Mehra, a former judge of the Delhi High Court, had headed the commission which slammed the police and the Delhi government`s transport department for lack of coordination and "negligent attitude", which allowed the heinous crime to occur.
