New Delhi: Former CWG Organising Committee
chief Suresh Kalmadi, an accused in a Games-related graft
case, on Friday sought bail from the Delhi High Court on the
ground of delay in start of the trial in the case against him.
Appearing for Kalmadi, senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi
argued before Justice Mukta Gupta that "only chargesheet has
been filed, while charges are yet to be framed by the special
court. The likelihood of commencement of trial in near future
is not there," Rohatgi said.
He also pleaded for bail to Kalmadi on the ground of his
failing health as, he said, his client has been suffering from
various ailments including cardiac problem.
The senior counsel argued Kalmadi`s custody was no more
required for probe in the case as CBI had told the court on
November 3 that its investigation is complete.
After hearing Rohatgi`s arguments, the court adjourned
the matter for Monday.
Citing the Supreme Court ruling during the grant of bail
to the 2G case accused on "bail is rule and jail an exception"
dictum, Kalmadi had approached high court for bail in November
