Coimbatore: CPI(M) on Wednesday extended its support
to social activist Anna Hazare's fast-unto-death pressing for
a comprehensive Lokpal bill, saying there should be an
effective law to deal with corruption.
The government should consult all political parties,
organisations, prominent persons before drafting or enacting
the legislation, CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat told
reporters here.
Karat said the party had already voiced its opinion that
the draft Bill in the present form was inadequate. If the
government was committed to fighting corruption, an effective
legislation was needed and the corrupt should be punished.
On seizure of huge amounts of unaccounted cash in Tamil
Nadu, going for Assembly elections on April 13, Karat said
CPI(M) had been demanding stringent action against those
circulating money.
The latest and biggest seizure of Rs 5.11 crore from a bus
in Tiruchirappalli yesterday indicated the extent of illegal
money being used in elections, he said.
