Karat for closer co-ordination between CPI-M, CPI

Prakash Karat clarified that a possible merger of CPI-M, CPI was not discussed by Central Committee.

Coimbatore: CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat on Friday admitted there was a need for closer co-ordination between his party and the CPI, but at the same time clarified that a possible merger of the two parties was not discussed by the Central Committee.
"There is the need to have common political understanding between the Left parties, to conduct joint struggle for the welfare of the people. A closer coordination between CPI-M and CPI in the process was necessary," Karat told reporters here.
After the CPI-M Central Committee meeting in Hyderabad, senior party leader Sitaram Yechury had talked about a possible merger of the two major Left parties.
