New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister has been given additional four days time by the Election Commission (EC) to respond to its notice on the ‘khooni panja’ remark made at a rally in Chhattisgarh.

The deadline to file a reply has been extended till November 20.

The extension in the deadline was made after BJP sought time to respond to the EC notice while stating that the party was unable to discuss the issue with Modi as he was busy with the poll campaign.

At a rally in Dongargarh last week, Modi sparked a row when he made "khooni panja" and "jalim haath" remarks to describe the Congress symbol.

Congress then complained to EC stating that comment made by Modi was "intemperate, malicious and defamatory.”

The EC had then issued the notice to Modi seeking explanation by November 16 as to why action should not be initiated against him for alleged violation of the model code of conduct.

The BJP had however maintained that there is no violation of code of conduct.
