New Delhi: Former top cop Kiran Bedi, who was on Tuesday arrested by Delhi Police for defying prohibitory orders, has been released.

Bedi was released along with senior lawyer Shanti Bhushan, another member of Team Anna.

"Kiran Bedi and Shanti Bhushan have been released," Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat told reporters. He said theirs was "preventive arrest".

Bedi and Bhushan were detained under the Delhi Police Act, on charges of refusing to comply with the directions given by a police officer.

Earlier in the day, Bedi - a former IPS officer - had refused to give a personal bond and get herself released.

Bedi was taken into custody at Rajghat when she arrived there to take part in the protest announced by Anna Hazare.
