New Delhi: The government is mulling to provide some relief to its employees whose children study in Kendriya Vidyalayas considering the three-fold hike in fees of these schools, Union Minister MM Pallam Raju said on Friday.
"Kendriya Vidyala Sangathan is a very popular scheme whereby we have 1,086 schools all over the country. Most of the children going to these schools are children of government employees. And the government employees are entitled to a certain allowance. We want to make sure that through the increase of the fees, we can realise that (sustain Kendriya Vidyalas)...Without hurting the employees," Raju told reporters.
"But the other categories who cannot pay -- the weaker sections will definitely be spared according to whatever exemptions that are already given. But it is important to sustain Kendriya Vidyalayas and also to strengthen them," the HRD Minister said.
"We have decided to do it in-principle," Raju added.
He was asked if the government had taken a decision to increase the allowance of government employees in view of the Kendriya Vidyalaya school fee hike.
To an another question on Shabnam Hashmi quitting five government panels alleging Congress "connivance" to ensure Narendra Modi`s victory in Gujarat polls, Raju hoped that the social activist will reconsider her decision.
"Today is the 127th Anniversary of the Indian National Congress and you know the Indian National Congress has been a very secular party...There is no way we will do anything non-secular and it’s a loss to lose a person like that. I hope she will reconsider (her decision to quit)," Raju said.
