New Delhi: Left parties today said they
will bring a cut motion on the Finance Bill in the Lok Sabha
if Government does not roll back the hike in petrol and diesel
prices and also mobilise the Opposition to back the move.
The CPI-M said the UPA government will have to go if it
loses the vote on the cut motion, as thousands of activists of
Left parties today hit the streets of the Capital to protest
against the price rise.
The Left leaders announced they will observe a Civil
Disobedience Day on April 8 demanding immediate action to roll
back the fuel prices.
Senior CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury said all "secular
opposition parties" will come together in Parliament against
the Budget and "we are already talking to other parties (in
this context).
"When the budget will be taken up for discussion and
approval, we are going to oppose them on the concrete
proposals contained in the budget which will lead to price
rise like the hike in prices of fuel. And on that if they lose
the vote, they (UPA) will have to go," he said.
CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan said the Left parties
will bring a cut-motion on the Finance Bill, demanding a
rollback of the Rs 3 fuel hike as announced in the Union
Budget.
He alleged that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had become
the "broker of capitalists" saying he has been giving support
and giving all benefits to them.
Shouting anti-government slogans and carrying placards,
activists of CPI(M), CPI, Forward Bloc and RSP marched from
Ramlila Maidan to Jantar Mantar demanding action from the
government to bring down the prices of essential commodities
and roll back of petroleum products price hike.
Addressing the rally, CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash
Karat said the Left parties will observe April 8 as Civil
Disobedience Day to put pressure on the UPA government to take
steps to address the burning issue.
