New Delhi: Abu Jundal, the 26/11 attacks handler currently in Delhi Police’s custody, has revealed during interrogation that the March 25, 2000 Chattisinghpora massacre in Jammu and Kashmir, in which 35 Sikhs were killed, was orchestrated by Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists.
The killings were masterminded by LeT’s operational head Muzammil Butt, according to a report in a leading daily.
So far, the Indian Army was accused of orchestrating the Chattisinghpora massacre.
As per sources, Jundal revealed that Muzammil, who was then operating in Kashmir, carried out the massacre at the village in Kashmir`s Anantnag district along with dozen other terrorists dressed in Army uniform.
Their purpose was to stoke communal hatred in Kashmir ahead of the state visit of the then US president Bill Clinton to India. Hurting the Indian Army’s image was another motive, Jundal revealed, as per sources.
The terrorists had on that fateful night forced all the male villagers to gather near the village gurdwara before shooting all of them dead.
The disclosures put Kashmiri separatists and several political leaders in the Valley in soup as they have so far stressed that the massacre was carried out by the Indian Army. Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani had last month even called for an international investigation into the incident.
