Listen to your leaders: China tells Indian media

New Delhi: Days after the Indian government asked the media to eschew "hype" over reported Chinese incursions, China's ambassador Zhang Yan Tuesday met Home Secretary G.K. Pillai here and tried to clarify the picture.

"Nothing is happening. You listen to your leaders," Zhang told reporters when asked about his nearly half-an-hour meeting with Pillai.

The Chinese ambassador's meeting came in the wake of repeated assertions by top Indian officials and the army chief that reported incursions have occurred due to differences in perception of the Line of Actual Control.

Even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh downplayed the incursions amid reports about Beijng's unhappiness at the way Chinese border transgressions have been reported in the Indian media to conjure up a China threat.

Seeking to deflate hype over reported Chinese intrusions across the undemarcated border, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao Saturday stressed that there was "no significant increase" in incursions across all sections of the over 4,000 km border between the two countries.

"Contrary to the popular perception, the situation along the border has remained peaceful for decades," Rao said.

National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan and army chief Gen. Deepak Kapoor also cautioned against the media hype and stressed that there was nothing alarming about the reported incursions.

Narayanan expressed concern, saying that if such reports continued, "someone somewhere might lose his cool and something might go wrong."

Underlining the developing nature of relationship between India and China, Rao, a former ambassador to China, said the leaderships of the two countries are in regular communication over important bilateral issues.

"We remain in constant touch over all mutual issues. The leadership-level understandings and communication remain open all the time," Rao said.

The apt and patriotic role being played by our media in correctly highlighting the Chinese air and land incursions in J&K Ladakh region and in Arunachal pradesh in the east is not liked by the Chinese who want to humiliate India like 1962. But it is well known to the Chinese that unlike 1962 when India became a victim of Chinese berayal to `Hindi, Chini, Bhai-Bhai`, Indian land and airforce are fully geared up now to thwart any Chinese threat. Chinese dubious role of arming Pakistan to the teeth and supplying them with the nuclear technology is being taken care of by the Indian government.

Indian Leaders are neglecting incursions by China, but media is playing good role and opposition is also calm but these should be highlighted. If these news agencies had been in 1962 then China would hadn`t defeated India and had taken TIbet from India. China might be trying to defeat again India for Arunachal Pradesh and others. So media should highlight those news....Well done medias.......I `ll congratulate you.

IT IS ABSOLUTELY TRUE THAT THE BORDER IS NOT DEMARCATED FOR CHINA BUT DEMARCATED FOR INDIA.WHY INDIA CANNOT TRANSGRESS THE BORDER.WE HAVE NEVER EXCEEDED OUR BORDER AS WE KNOW VERY WELL THAT CHINA WOULD MAKE HELL OF US.WE ARE WEAK AS WE ARE SHOWING TO CHINA.WE SHOULD HAVE PROTESTED TO CHINA FOR THE TRANSGRESSION.WHEN CHINA WANTED TO BLOCK TEH NUCLEAR TREATY WHAT WAS OUR REACTION.WHEN CHINA OBJECTED TO LOAN FROM WORLD BANK FOR ARUNACHAL PRADESH WHICH IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF INDIA WHY INDIA REMAIN SILENT.NOW WHEN CHINA HAS BLOCKED OUR RESOLUTION, WE ARE SILENT.SO WE SHOULD TALK WITH CHINA OVER THE ISSUES WHEN CHINA IS DOING INIMICAL ACTS.WE NEED NOT BE APPREHENSIVE OF THE MILITARY POWERS OF CHINA.``JO DAR GAYA SO MAR GAYA.``

Will Mrs. Nirupama Rao please do the explaining as to why she as a very senior lady diplomat had to go through the humiliation of taking the call from the Chines foreign office at 3 AM and had to rush there. Why couldn`t she stand up to the Chinese who show a penchant for humiliating India on the slightest pretext?
