LK Advani turns 86, meets Narendra Modi

BJP veteran leader LK Advani turned 86 and was presented a bouquet of flowers by the party`s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

New Delhi: BJP veteran leader LK Advani turned 86 on Friday and was presented a bouquet of flowers by the party`s prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Modi met Advani at his residence here before leaving for a rally in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh.

The meeting between the two lasted for 15 minutes.

Advani was born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi, now part of Pakistan.

"Best wishes to Advani ji on his birthday. He is always an inspiration for us," Modi tweeted before meeting the BJP leader.

The BJP patriarch was later greeted on his birthday by President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, among others.
Nitish Kumar called up Advani on the phone to wish him.

Mukherjee, Ansari and Singh sent him bouquets and written messages on the occasion.

RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat also phoned him.

BJP president Rajnath Singh and former party chief Nitin Gadkari met Advani soon after Modi.

Other prominent leaders who wished the BJP leader are Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and SP Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav. National Conference Chief and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah sent flowers to Advani.

A host of Delhi BJP leaders, who are busy campaigning for the ensuing Assembly Elections, reached Advani`s residence to wish him. These include VK Malhotra, Vijay Goel and Vijendra Gupta.

Deputy Leader of the BJP in Rajya Sabha Ravi Shankar Prasad, General Secretary (Organisation) Ram Lal and Murlidhar Rao met Advani and wished him.

Opposing the elevation of Modi, his one-time protégé, as BJP`s election campaign committee chief, Advani had resigned from all party posts in June this year but later withdrew his resignation after RSS intervened.

He had also not attended the party`s Parliamentary Board meeting in September month where Modi was declared BJP`s prime ministerial contender.
