Pakistan offers talks to defuse tension with India Zeenews Bureau

New Delhi: After days of bitter stand-off over the brutal killing of two Indian soldiers by its forces, Pakistan finally offered to hold talks with India to sort out all issues of concern.

Reports, Thursday, said that the offer was made last night by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, who expressed her willingness to hold discussions with her Indian counterpart to resolve issues related to Line of Control (LoC) and reinforce ceasefire.

Khar had earlier accused India of engaging in "war-mongering" in the aftermath of clashes and killing of two Indian soldiers at the (LoC) in Jammu & Kashmir.

Khar also said Pakistan is "deeply disappointed" to hear statements from India that are "upping the ante" and claimed her government is creating a "precedence" of not following war-mongering.

India, Pakistan and the South Asian region cannot afford a conflict between the two countries and the doors of dialogue have to remain open, she said, adding her government wants the dialogue process to be "uninterrupted and uninterruptible."

The Pakistan Foreign Minister's comments came close on the heels of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's stern warning to Pakistan that it cannot be "business as usual" between the neighbours after tension flared up at the LoC following the killing of two soldiers--one of whom was beheaded-- by Pakistani troops.

Meanwhile, Indian and Pakistani forces on Wednesday agreed to maintain peace on the LoC in J&K after days of bitter stand-off that had threatened their uneasy ties.

The two armies agreed not to violate the 2003 ceasefire on the LoC, a top Army officer was quoted as saying.

"The DGMOs (Director General of Military Operations) of India and Pakistan had a 10 minute talk in the morning and agreed not to violate the ceasefire and exercise maximum restraint," an Indian Army spokesperson said.

The DGMOs agreed not to allow the situation along the LoC, which divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan, to escalate, he added.

Ties between the two neighbours were under strain ever since the Jan 6 killing of a Pakistani soldier allegedly in firing by Indian troops. Two days later, Pakistani soldiers brutally killed two Indian soldiers, including beheading one of them, on the LoC. India has voiced its protest over the killing and also summoned the Pakistani envoy in New Delhi.

India also held back the Visa on Arrival regime for senior Pakistani citizens and Pakistani hockey players for the Indian Hockey League were asked to return on Tuesday.

Army Chief General Bikram Singh had Tuesday termed the killing of the Indian soldiers "an unpardonable act" and said his forces reserved the "right to retaliate".

Pakistani troops had violated the ceasefire on the LoC in Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir Tuesday evening on two occasions - a day after their brigadier-level flag meeting Monday.

Terror conclave on Indian passport Do you know what the backdrop of the whole LOC incident is? Govt. of India allowed a team of the moderate faction of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference [APHC] led by the Kashmir Valley’s head priest, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, to go to Pakistan for a discussion of the Kashmir issue with the Pakistan Government. But they went and met Hafiz Saeed — India’s most wanted man for the 2008 Mumbai attacks, and Syed Salahuddin — the supreme commander of the United Jihad Council [UJC], an alliance of various militant outfits operating from Pakistan-administered Kashmir. I think even a child can imagine the remaining part of the story.

War was never and never will be a solution to any problem between the nations and the history is the biggest example . War has alwaays been the destructor for the common people and really leave nothing in hand. Negotiations and peace making is the only solution for the people here and those in pakistan who are actually not in a good agreement with their government. Whoever wins, whatever they claim, whatever they encroachit is the common man who is at loss. No one wants war, blood sheds, hospital beds...................its just a handful of people within the pakistan regime who instigate others and we know who are these elements.............as we, the people here wants to spend a peaceful life so do the people there...........so except establishing peace and some treaties the two nations should not think of anything else...............and the government should understand this for their countrymen`s wellbeing...............

Pakistan does not understand agreements or negotiations. Do you recall their atrocities in East Pakistan (now Bangldesh). Millions of them migrated to India, died and women raped brutally by Pakistanis. They came to knees only when Indian forces beat them all the way. Even now, they don`t apologize for brutal act on Indian soldier. How they can behead a soldier on Indian side unless they come to Indian side and take away his head to show to their superiors as souvenir. Untill India`s PM returned their hockey-team and stopped instant visas, they did not agree to bend down. Why we have to care for them - are they more powerful ? They keep on demanding Kashmir whereas most Kashmirs also know they will be miserable in Pakistan`s hands. We need to keep Pakistan straight by giving them befitting reply for any violation at borders or inside India.

In my view there is some security lapse from indian army side that is why pak soldiers find it easy to cross over to our side and causes serious casualities on indian side. This thing also happened some times back when chineese armymen crossed over to indian side in ladakh and wrote warning notes on stones due to absence of border security personal.

who is the ruler in pak? The governance in that failed state is a dummy and the provocation will be done by the ruler and propitiation will be done by the dummy ruler? Whom do they want to cheat? our government, needless to say a dogmatic is good for nothing. God alone should save this nation for another two years

It is a power game. If Indian politician has guts, they can draw a larger line to show more power than them. If not do not cry. Do`nt talk show power.

Now, Government should be very cautious when entering any talk with Pakistan. Foreign Minister of Pakistan is immature and inexperienced politician and she always retraced from her off the cuff utterings. There should be no talk with the Pakistan without taking the opposition parties into confidence. Pakistan has to convince Indian Army /Government that such things will not be repeated by the Pakistan Army in future and the authorities in Pakistan should apologise from the families of slain martyrs
