Bappi Lahiri joins BJP, Rajnath Singh welcomes move

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, famous music director and singer Bappi Lahiri joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday.

New Delhi: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, famous music director and singer Bappi Lahiri joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday. Party president Rajnath Singh welcomed Lahiri`s decision of joining BJP while expressing his happiness, Singh tweeted, “Welcomed Shri Bappi Lahiri and several others from the television and cinema industry into the party fold after they joined the BJP today.” Before announcing his move to join BJP, Lahiri today met Rajnath Singh in the national capital. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also wrote on micro-blogging site twitter - “I welcome veteran music director Shri Bappi Lahiri to BJP.” Born in Kolkata, West Bengal, Lahiri has been living in Mumbai for over 40 years. However, it is still not clear weather he will just campaign for the party or will fight the elections as well. And if at all Lahiri fights the upcoming RS polls whether he will fight from Mumbai or Kolkata is also not yet known.
