New Delhi: Hitting out at Anna Hazare for criticising Rahul Gandhi, the Congress on Sunday accused Team Anna of playing politics.

“This is taking people to a wrong path. It’s Anna Hazare’s right to sit on fast, but the way he is pointing Sonia Gandhi and Rahul is just a political stunt. He is playing politics,” Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi said.

Hazare had said that he suspected Rahul Gandhi to be behind the Parliamentary Standing Committee move on going back on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh`s "assurance" to include in the bill citizen`s charter, lower bureaucracy and establishment of Lokayuktas in states.

"There is somebody behind...We suspect Rahul Gandhi could be behind this... As without him this is not possible. That is why there are these problems," Hazare said.

Commenting on the proposed discussion at Jantar Mantar, where several members of the political parties will discuss in public the Lokpal issue, Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi said that Anna Hazare is insulting the Parliament.

“The government has promised for Lokpal Bill and it has been shown up in the Parliament. Lokpal Bill cannot be made at Jantar Mantar,” he said.

Team Anna had on Saturday said that BJP leader Arun Jaitley, CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat and leaders from several other parties will be among those who will visit the fast site to discuss Lokpal Bill. Team Anna said they had also invited the Congress but the ruling party conveyed it will not be attending.

Hazare is currently holding a day-long fast at Jantar Mantar to press for his long-standing demand for a ‘strong’ Lokpal Bill.
