Lokpal report influenced by Rahul: Kejriwal
New Delhi: Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for trying to dilute the powers of the Lokpal.
Addressing supporters gathered at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar where Anna Hazare is holding a token day-long fast today, Kejriwal said the Parliamentary Standing Committee which examined the Lokpal Bill and submitted a report on it in Parliament heard only Rahul Gandhi’s voice.
The anti-corruption activist said the Parliamentary panel drafted the report at Rahul Gandhi’s behest, and did not listen to the voice of neither the PM nor the Parliament.
Kejriwal said the PM has broken his promise on Lokpal which he had made in a letter written to Hazare in August when he was on fast at Ramlila Maidan.
He said the panel’s recommendations will turn Lokpal into a post office which will only pass on complaints to other departments but will have no investigative powers.
He also demanded that the CBI should come under Lokpal. According to Kejriwal, the CBI has been misused by successive governments, including the NDA.
Taking potshots at Kapil Sibal, Kejriwal said the Telecom Minister ensured the daily SMS limit per SIM was brought down to 200 after Team Anna successfully used the same to communicate with the masses.
Now the minister is targeting Facebook as Team Anna has used the same to promote their cause, he added.
