LS Speaker leads Parliamentary delegation to Iran

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is leading a Parliamentary delegation to Iran where she is scheduled to meet President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar
is leading a Parliamentary delegation to Iran where she is
scheduled to meet President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and senior
ministers in a bid to further strengthen ties between the two
countries.

The delegation has embarked on the visit to Iran from
November 3 to 6, the Speaker`s office said.

Those accompanying Kumar include MPs Prabodh Panda,
Bijoya Chakravarty, M Krishnasamy, Monazir Hassan, Shivanand
Tiwari and Ahmad Saeed Malihabadi.

Lok Sabha Secretary General T K Viswanathan and Joint
Secretary Lok Sabha Secretariat Ravinder Kumar Chadha are also
a part of the delegation.

"During the visit, the delegation will call on Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and
will hold meetings with Ali Larijani, Speaker of the Majlis as
well as with the Chairman and Members of the Iran-India
Parliamentary Friendship Group," an official said.

Kumar will also be meeting Ali-Akbar Salehi, Foreign
Minister of Iran and Ali Reza Zaker Esfahani, Governor General
of the Isfahan Province.

During the visit, Kumar will unveil the bust of Acharya
J C Bose at the Pardis Technology Park in Tehran.

A tableau of the Persian version of Gurudev Rabindranath
Tagore`s poem on Iran will be presented at the Majlis. The
delegation will also visit the Kendriya Vidyalaya at Tehran.
