Kochi: Sufiya Madani, the wife of PDP leader Abdul Madani was arrested on Thursday after the Kerala High Court denied her anticipatory bail.
Sufiya Madani is an accused in the Kalamassery bus burning case.
According to a news report, Sufiya Madani’s advocate V Chidambaresh had contended that it is strange that she is being made an accused in the case. It was not right to order re-investigation into the case on the basis of the petition of a stranger, he had argued.
The court had ordered re-investigation into the case on a petition filed by PD Joseph of Thrissur.
The special investigation team that probes the Kalamassery bus burning case had named PDP chairman Abdul Nazar Madhani’s wife Sufia Madhani as the 10th accused.
The Kerala High Court on Friday refused to grant bail to Sufia who is seeking protection from arrest in connection with the incident. The bus belonging to Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation which was bound for Salem, was torched on September 19 , 2005.
At the time of the incident Madhani was an undertrial in the Coimbatore blast case. The case came back in focus when the alleged LeT operative Thadiyantavide Nazir, arrested recently confessed his involvement in the incident.
The special investigation team is being led by Thrikkakkara Assistant Commissioner P.M.Varghese.
According to Madani he and his wife are being targeted by were targeted by those who were not in favour of Madani’s stand against violence and his decision to function as secularist.
