Mumbai: The Maharashtra government will soon take a decision on whether to shift Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab from Arthur jail to some other prison after his death sentence was upheld by the Bombay High Court on Monday.

"We have not yet decided over shifting Kasab to some other jail. I will soon discuss the issue with officials of the Home Department", Home Minister RR Patil said. "Kasab is provided high security at the Arthur Road jail. Proper arrangements would have to be in place prior to his shifting", an official from the Home Department said.

Earlier, a proposal of shifting Kasab to Yerwada jail in Pune was under consideration. But since his case was pending before High Court, no final decision was taken on the proposal.

The Pakistani gunman is lodged in solitary confinement in an egg-shaped cell at the high security Arthur Road jail in the central part of city.

Only the under trials are kept in Arthur Road jails.

Sreedhar Kannan - Mumbai
There is no need to spend crores of rupees for the upkeep and security of this ``beast from Pakistan`` who has brought sorrow and suffering to thousands of our citizens. There is no use giving him a less painful and easy death by hanging him.He should never be kept in a crowded place like south Mumbai, but be shifted to a remote undisclosed place and should be kept in solitary confinement. He should not be provided with any sort of comfort or other facilities, but be made to do hard labor. The question of ``Kandahar Drama`` being repeated does not arise in Kasab`s case because he is an ``illiterate street urchin`` who has been ``disowned by his own country also``, as compared to Maulana Masood who was released after the hijack incident Not a dog will care for him now. So no need to provide a ``bomb proof cell`` or spend crores for his security. What is the need to give so much protection and medical care for a person who is awaiting death? He should be made to lead a rigorous life made to suffer the worst when he will repent and say to himself ``O Allah I have paid for my sins and it is better to die than to lead such a miserable existence``.Hanging him will close his chapter and he will become a ``martyr`` for many in Pakistan, motivating many more ``Jehadis`` to follow his path.
