Mumbai: Maharashtra Minister of State for
Home today announced to consider bringing an Act to ban
pornographic websites in the backdrop of an Army official
uploading obscene clippings of children on the net.
"We are considering bringing an Act to ban pornographic
websites. We would also request the Centre to amend existing
Acts for strict actions against culprits," Minister of State
for Home, Ramesh Bagwe informed the Legislative Council.
The suggestion came from Congress MLC Rajendra Mulak and
the minister agreed to it.
The Home Department has also started net patrolling in
the cyber cafes. Police officials have been trained to deal
with cyber crime cases, Bagwe said.
Shiv Sena MLC Neelam Gorhe asked if the Government is
following guidelines led by Justice Mrudula Bhatkar while
dealing with a case of child pornography. The minister said
the Government would act as per the guidelines.
An Army official was arrested from south Mumbai in May
for uploading obscene clips of children on the internet.
The Government has contacted the website to remove the
clippings, the minister added.
