Zeenews Bureau

Mumbai: Even as the dust has yet to settle over Malegaon Additional District Collector Yashwant Sonawane’s gruesome murder by the oil mafia, another government official was attacked in Maharashtra, this time by the sand mafia.

According to reports, revenue official Srinivas Patil was attacked by goons in Sangli for trying to stop illegal sand mining. The attack took place earlier this week.

Srinivasan was attacked with stones by three men while he was chasing a truck full of sand on his motorcycle.

The police have arrested the three suspects.

Yashwant Sonawane was burnt alive by members of the oil mafia in Nashik district on Tuesday.

I feel that apart from giving suitable compensation to the family of late Mr. Sonawane, he must also be awarded for his bravery for catching hold of the ringleader despite himself being burnt. We should feel proud of having such honest officers in our country like Mr. Sonawane who died a heroic death. Also the Govt must come down heavily to smash such mafias with regular raids coupled with stringent punishments. Jai Hind

THE GOVT OFFICIAL DO NOT RAID THE MAFIA WHEN THEY ARE GETTING THEIR SHARE AND WHEN THEY DO NOT GET IT OR WHEN THERE IS PUBLIC PRESSURE LIKE THESE DAYS THEN THEY DO DRAMA THAT THEY ARE ACTIVE IN THEIR JOB

may be this office did not get proper share from the sand mafia or want to bargain to increase his share.

inverticate properly that how many years these officers are working with same position/place. why sudden dignity???? it is to blackmail to get more share.

I strongly feel that Additional District Collector Yashwant Sonawane should be awarded Param Veer Chakra for his actions. On being burnt, he caught hold of the ring leader Popat Shinde and caused 60% burns to him also.

In Karnataka we have a number of similar mafias but unfortunately no Sonawanes.
