Kolkata: Alleging that the Left Front
government was supplying arms to CPI-M cadres and ministers,
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today requested Union
Home Minister P Chidambaram to look into the matter and take
"I request Union Home Minister to look into the
illegal arms stockpile of the CPI-M cadres and seize them. The
state government is supplying arms to them as well as
ministers and these arms are being transported to different
areas. The safety and security of the people will be at
stake," she told reporters here.
Trinamool Congress MPs had repeatedly raised the issue
in Parliament, she said.
Banerjee had on Saturday claimed that unable to fight
her politically, the CPI-M had hatched a conspiracy to
eliminate her by forming a suicide squad.
She said she had instructed leader of Opposition
Partha Chatterjee to lead a legislature party delegation to
Governor M K Narayanan to demand action.
"We want action, failing which we will take to the
streets and sit on indefinite dharna. The police is giving
protection to those who are stockpiling arms," she warned and
asked the police to discharge their duty in an impartial way.
Claiming that the Assembly election would be held in
three-four months, Banerjee said CPI-M was trying to create
unrest in the state `by making the police inactive`.
"Knowing that their defeat was certain in (Assembly)
election, the CPI-M is resorting to terror at various places
in the state," she said.
