New Delhi: Whistle-blower website WikiLeaks has put in public domain a 2007 US secret cable, as per which Congress chief Sonia Gandhi described Manmohan Singh "a man of integrity", who is very "hard to find" in politics.
Reflecting positively on the PM, Sonia told US diplomats in a conversation on the nuclear deal that the Congress party "trusts him" as he is "straight forward and frank". Sonia made the remarks as the US delegation apprised her that Singh`s visit to the US was well received.
The details of the secret cable have been reported in the Tuesday edition of a leading English daily.
Meanwhile, in another 2007 cable the then foreign secretary Shivshankar Menon, who is now the national security adviser, indicated to US diplomats how important the Indo-US nuclear deal was to PM Singh.
In an interaction with US diplomats ahead of a G-8 summit in July 2008, Menon said the prospect of visiting US without domestic progress on the nuclear deal was making PM Singh "sick".
Talking about the progress in Indo-US ties, Menon said "we`ve managed to come so far with the US; we have not done anything like this with anyone else, ever".
