Many litigants victim of blast outside HC

Neeru Mahendra, wife of another injured Pramod Mahendra, was seen running helter-skelter to arrange for medical aid for her husband at the hospital.

New Delhi: A number of people, who were at the Delhi High Court in connection with their scheduled cases have become victims of the blast here in, which at least nine people have been killed and 45 others injured.

Lawyer Sanjeev Beniwal, who rushed his client Mehtab Singh (55) to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, could not hold his tears back after doctors said, Singh had succumbed to injuries.

"He (Singh) was fighting a property-related case at the court. He was getting his pass made, when the blast occurred. His son Rohit and my associate Sachin Powa have also been injured. We rushed them to hospital and I just want them to be safe as I could not save Singh," Beniwal, who himself got injured in the blast, said.

RML Medical Superintendent T S Sidhu said, that over a dozen people were brought to the hospital after the blast.

"He had gone to the court as our daughter Aarti Sabharwal is fighting a dowry case. He is injured and is in bad shape," Mahendra said.

He was waiting for the lawyer, when the blast occurred, she said.
