Kolkata: The West Bengal police on Tuesday arrested a top leader of Maoists' military wing and a close aide of Naxal leader 'Kishenji'.

Venkateshar Reddy alias Telugu Deepak, who is chairman of CPI(Maoist)'s state military commission, West Bengal chapter, who was associated with Maoist leader Koteshwar Rao alias Kishenji since 1995, has been apprehended here.

Sources said Deepak was wanted in connection with a number of incidents of Naxal violence.

It is believed that Deepak had masterminded the recent attack on a security camp in West Bengal, in which 24 jawans of Eastern Frontier Rifles were killed.
