Rourkela : Maoists blew up
railway tracks in Sundergarh district of Orissa Wednesday,
derailing a goods train and disrupting train services on the
Mumbai-Howrah route.
Eight bogies of the goods train moving to Rourkela were
derailed under the impact of the blast that took place at
around 2 am, railway officials said.
The explosion snapped overhead electric cables
stretching up to one-and-a-half km.
The track is being repaired and officials are planning
to divert the stranded trains to a route via
Ranchi-Hatia-Moory.
Utkal Express, Bombay-Howrah Mail, Azadhind Express,
Gitanjali Express, Ahmedabad Express, Samaleswari Express and
Tata-Allipy have been stopped at different stations.
The ultras had also targeted the railway line during
the three-day bandh in five states, including Orissa, called
to protest against the Center’s proposed offensive against
them.
The Maoists have carried out repeated attacks in the
Sundergarh district, killing people, destroying railway
tracks, hospitals, school buildings and the panchayat office.
The police said at least six persons were killed in the
last 10 months including three in the last fortnight in this
Maoist-infested western Orissa district.
