Maoists blast building near Visakhapatnam

A building of Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation was damaged in a blast allegedly triggered by Maoists this morning at Cherpalli village.

Visakhapatnam: A building of Andhra Pradesh
Forest Development Corporation (APFDC) was damaged in a blast
that was suspected to have been triggered by Maoists early
this morning at Cherpalli village, police said today.

The incident took place in Chintapalli mandal of the
district, police said, adding that computers and television
sets were stolen from the building.

Police suspected that the Maoists could have damaged the
building to protest against the bauxite mining activities in
the agency area.

The Maoists also resorted to road blockades at Jerrela
village by cutting trees, they added.
A four-member expert committee, appointed by the Union
Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), had recently made
an aerial survey of the Jerrela bauxite mines.
