Ranchi: Naxalites today damaged a school
while four of its carder were arrested on the second day of
the 48-hour shutdown in five Naxal-affected states by the CPI
(Maoist), evoking mixed response in Jharkhand.
Maoists hurled two bombs at a middle school in Palamu`s
Charai village in the wee hours, Palamau SP Anup T Mathew said
in Medininagar. While one bomb flattened a room of the school,
another did not explode.
Meanwhile, security forces arrested a Maoist `Area
Commander`, Mithilesh Mandal and two of his associates in
Giridih, District Superintendent of Police A V Homker said.
Mandal was allegedly involved in the killing of a special
police officer last month and several robberies, he said. Two
rifles and 193 bullets were recovered from him.
Another hardcore Maoist, Brajesh Yadav, who was a member
of the Maoist firing squad, was nabbed from Gumla, police
The arrests came during intensive combing operations
against the Maoists, who are observing the bandh in Jharkhand,
West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and Bihar against price rise
and the Centre`s "anti-people" policies.
The shutdown evoked mixed response in naxal-pockets,
according to reports. It will end at midnight.
