Chandigarh: CPI(M)-affiliated trade union
CITU today lashed out at the Maoists and Trinamool Congress
for allegedly unleashing terror on its workers in West Bengal.
"Hundreds of cadres and sympathisers of CPI(M) and Centre
of Indian Trade Unions are being targeted by the Maoists-
Trinamool Congress goons in West Bengal," CITU President M K
Pandhe said.
Describing such attacks as a threat to democracy, Pandhe
and CITU General Secretary Mohammed Amin said in a statement
here that thousands of activists of the Left parties and trade
unions were being forced to leave their homes and take shelter
in relief camps.
The Maoists were unleashing terror on villagers and
tribals through murder, arson, forcible fines and extortion,
they alleged.
The CITU is holding its 13th All India Conference here.
The leaders alleged that these dastardly attacks were
part of a well-planned conspiracy to gag the opposition voice.
The Left, particularly CPI(M) is targeted because it is
the loudest voice "against sacrificing the interests of the
country at the altar of US imperialism", they said.
