New Delhi: Legislative effort to fight
domestic violence and foeticide in India is among the issues
on which Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will dwell on at the
Women Speakers of Parliament conference in Switzerland.
Kumar, who will be leaving for Bern tomorrow to attend
the sixth annual meeting on July 16, will also speak on the
importance of positive discrimination in favour of women.
The Speaker, who will be on a week-long visit, will also
travel to Geneva to attend the Third World Conference of
Speakers of Parliament on July 18 in the presence of UN
Secretary General Ban ki-Moon.
Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan, who will also
participate in the conference, will speak on "keeping our
collective promise on the Millennium Development Goals".
Kumar will be accompanied by Lok Sabha Secretary General
P D T Achary and other officials.
