New Delhi: Mercury dipped further in several
parts of north India today, with Leh in Jammu and Kashmir
freezing at a low of minus 18.2 C while national capital Delhi
recorded the season's lowest.
Nights have become unbearable for people in Leh and
Kargil with the minimum temperature nose diving to minus 18.2
and minus 17.2 Celsius respectively, the Met office said.
Elsewhere in Jammu and Kashmir, Pahalgam shivered at
minus 6.4 degrees followed by Kupwara (minus 3.7 C), Qazigund
(minus 3.0 C) and Kokernag (minus 2.0 C) and Srinagar (2.6 C).
The night temperature in Jammu division, considered to be
a hot zone, also fell by a few notches with the low in
Bhaderwah reaching a freezing point. Srinagar was the warmest
in Kashmir valley recording a maximum of 9.1 C (against 11.2 C
yesterday) while in Jammu region, Jammu city registered a day
temperature of 22.2 C.
National capital Delhi recorded the season's lowest
temperature at 7.7 C as the Met office predicted a further dip
in mercury in coming days. "Snowfall in the hills of Northern
states besides clear sky will lead to further fall in
temperature," they said.
People in Himachal Pradesh had no respite from cold
conditions as icy breeze kept the weather cool despite the
absence of rain or snow.
State capital Shimla recorded a high of 14 C, a rise of
almost one degree than yesterday, and a low of 3.9 C. However,
cold winds made life difficult for people, especially
tourists, the Met office said.
