Srinagar: Rejecting CBI's report, moderate
Hurriyat Conference on Friday demanded an international probe into
the alleged rape and murder of two women in Shopian.
"We demand an international probe into the Shopian
double rape and murder case to unveil the truth and government
of India should have no objection if the CBI report was based
on facts", Mirwaiz Umer Farooq told a Friday congregation at
Jamia Masjid in old city today.
He said preferably the probe should be conducted by
international bodies like Asia Watch and United Nations.
Rejecting the CBI report submitted to Jammu and Kashmir
high court on Monday, Mirwaiz said it was a "fraud" played by
the investigating agency with the people of Kashmir.
"It (report) is surprising as the men in uniform
involved in the case were given clean chit to safeguard the
so-called national interest", Mirwaiz said.
Meanwhile, the high court bar association today
denounced the CBI report and it too demanded an international
probe into the incident.
"We are approaching the international court of justice
in this case", president Mian Abdul Qayoom told reporters at
Sadder court premises here.
He said the Bar has decided to defend the lawyers,
doctors and others implicated in the case.
Qayoom also said the state high court had not granted
permission to the state government to hand over the case to
CBI.
He said a strike call has been given throughout the
state on December 23 to express solidarity with those
implicated in the case.
Mirwaiz not in favour of troop withdrawal
Mirwaiz Umer Farooq claimed that
troops had not been removed from Jammu and Kashmir as stated
by Defence Minister A K Antony.
He termed the statement of the defence minister about
troops withdrawal as "mere announcement".
"When were the troops withdrawn? Who saw them leaving
Jammu and Kashmir. It is mere announcement," Mirwaiz said
addressing Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid in old city.
"Military camps are intact and full of army personnel.
Mere announcement (about withdrawal of troops) cannot lure
Kashmiris," he added.
"The government makes promises but never fulfil them.
There are more than five lakh army in Kashmir and no step is
being taken to remove them," Mirwaiz alleged.
‘Create conducive atmosphere for talks’
Facing flak from the separatists
for entering into a "quiet dialogue" with the Centre, Moderate
Hurriyat conference today said India should concede to its
five-point demand so as to create a conducive atmosphere for
dialogue.
"If Government of India is really serious in resolving
the Kashmir issue than it should concede to Hurriyat's five
point demand", chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq told a Friday
congregation at Jamia Masjid in old city today.
He said the Hurriyat's demand for complete withdrawal of
troops, release of detenues, revocation of armed forces
special powers act (AFSPA), free trade between two Kashmirs
and easy travel across the Line of Control will create an
atmosphere for dialogue among India, Pakistan and leadership
of Kashmiris.
Mirwaiz said mere promises and announcements regarding
solving the problem will not do. "The Government should take
serious steps towards resolving the Kashmir issue".
