Modern equipment to speed up disposal of petitions under RTI

Speaking to reporters at the Collectorate here,he said the
number of petitions filed under RTI was higher in Tamil Nadu
compared to other states,showing there was more awareness
awareness. A total of 1,18,400 petitions have been filed since
2006 when the act came into force till August 2009.

Of these, 22,450 not related to RTI were dismissed, while
departmental action was being taken on 86,150 petitions. Most
petitions were filed from Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and
Kanyakumari districts, he said, adding that pending petitions
would be disposed off before October 2009.

Perumalsamy said the commission has also ordered
disciplinary action against officials who had failed to
furnish proper information.
The commission would launch E-governance and video
conferencing as part of modernisation process, he said, adding
that a proposal in this regard was being examined by the
Centre.
