Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana too received
downpour as the monsoon remained active in the northern belt
that helped to wipe out rain deficiency to a large extent.

Shimla in Himachal Pradesh experienced 49 mm of rains in
just three hours while Bharwain in Una district was wettest in
the state, recording a rainfall of 110 mm.

The rains led to mercury dipping by several notches as
the maximum in hill resort Shimla stood at 20.6 deg C while
that in Una fell by seven degrees from yesterday to settle at
28.4 deg C.

In the national capital, the day began with humidity on a
higher note, resulting in inconvenience to the citizens. But
the sky opened up in the later part of the day, giving relief
to Delhiites. The city recorded a maximum of 36.6 deg C, three
notches above normal, and a minimum of 26.3 deg C.

Moderate to heavy rains lashed many places in Haryana and
Punjab giving relief to people from sultry weather conditions.

Ropar was wettest in the region, recording a rainfall 33
mm, followed by Gurgaon 24 mm, Chandigarh 20 mm, Rohtak 22 mm,
Kalka 20 mm and Anandpur Sahib 17 mm.

The showers gave relief to people reeling under hot
conditions for the past few days. Yesterday Hisar in Haryana
had recorded a maximum temperature of 40.2 degrees.

The maximum in Chandigarh fell to 28.8 deg C, four below
normal, while that in Ambala settled at 30.5 deg C, down three
notches than yesterday. Ludhiana and Patiala recorded a high
of 33 deg C and 33.2 deg C, down by two degrees each.
