MPs to contribute to Uttarakhand relief from MPLADS fund

Several members of Rajya Sabha have expressed their desire to contribute to the relief and rehabilitation works for victims of the devastating flash floods in Uttarakhand

New Delhi: Several members of Rajya Sabha have expressed their desire to contribute to the relief and rehabilitation works for victims of the devastating flash floods in Uttarakhand, which has been declared as "calamity of severe nature" by the government.

Following requests for generous contributions by many MPs, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat was asked by Chairman Hamid Ansari to inform them of the guidelines under MPLAD scheme for recommending the permissible works.

Rajya Sabha Secretary General Shamsher K Sharif has informed members that any of them "can now recommend works up to a maximum of Rs 50 lakh for the affected districts" out of the MPLADS funds.

The funds would be released by the authority of the nodal district of the MP concerned to the authority of the affected districts to get the works done, a parliamentary bulletin issued in this regard said.

The employees of Rajya Sabha Secretariat have also decided to voluntarily contribute a day`s salary to the Prime Minister`s National Relief Fund for relief and rehabilitation of the victims in the affected areas of Uttarakhand.
