New Delhi: Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss the issue of reservation for faculty in superspeciality section in AIIMS, on which the government plans to bring a Bill to quash the Supreme Court order.

Sources said Yadav called on the Prime Minister to discuss the issue. The Supreme Court had passed an order against providing reservation in jobs to faculty for superspeciality section in AIIMS.

In the monsoon session of Parliament this year, almost all parties had demanded in the Lok Sabha that the government should bring a Constitutional amendment Bill to negate the Supreme Court order.

Cornered by the members including some from the ruling Congress, the government had announced that it will move a Constitution amendment Bill very soon. The parties demanded that the government should not wait for a review petition it had filed in the Supreme Court on the verdict.

Law Minister Kapil Sibal's contention in the House that if the Supreme Court does not annul its order, the government will bring a Constitution amendment Bill in Parliament was not accepted by the members. They said the government should not wait and bring a Constitution amendment.

SP, JD(U), BSP and DMK were the most vocal in their demand for the Bill.
