New Delhi: In a significant development, an influential Muslim voice has come out in support of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who is being dubbed as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate for 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Jamiat-i-Ulama-Hind chief Maulana Mahmood Madani has said the “situation of the Muslims in Gujarat was bad but it was worse in some of the secular states”.

In an interview with a television channel Madani even said that though the government could create fear about Modi among Muslims, the minority community has seen through these tactics.

Mahmood Madani’s observations are very important as he is known to command major influence at the Deoband-based Darul Uloom, controlled by his uncle Maulana Arshad Madani.

The BJP welcomed the observation from someone close to the ruling elite in India’s leading Islamic seminary and sees as a precursor of things to come.

English daily DNA quoted party spokesperson, Rajiv Pratap Rudy as saying that the minorities have realised the benefits of the development politics practised by the BJP. They had been cheated by the practitioners of vote-bank politics, he said.

But the ‘change’ has been in the works for a while now. It manifested itself profoundly during the recently concluded assembly polls in Gujarat where BJP candidates won in Muslim dominated constituencies.

The assembly win was followed by the spectacular victory registered by the party in the municipal polls where even the party’s Muslim nominees did exceedingly.

The DNA report also quoted a senior BJP leader as he explained that there is large section among the Muslim youth who aspire for better things in life. They are gradually adjusting themselves to the changing reality. They realise that BJP offers a better future in the long run and that is why there is a systematic change of mind-set.

The country needs development in all spheres so that everyone gets job and meaningful quality of life.We should not fall prey to political propaganda and ask if we are satisfied with our quality of life in the present tense. If not where do we see the light for the future. If the answer is Mr Narendra Modi then without cast, language or religious barrier, elect an individual who can improve our day to day life. SK Singh

Muslims are not the only minority in India. Akali Dal which represents the minority Sikh community is in alliance with the BJP. As I understand, the Buddhists and the Jains are not particularly anti-BJP. I belong to the minority Christian community and do not at all feel threatened by the Hindus or BJP. As some one belonging to one of India`s minority communities I do not claim any special rights or privileges. What I need is that I too should have all the rights and privileges of an Indian citizen, in the same way as a fellow Hindu Indian. And I am happy to say that all these years (I am sixty one) I have never found any serious threat to this from any corner. It is some of our so called secular Hindu political leaders, social activists and media people, who pretend to be more loyal to Muslim causes than Muslims themselves are, are the ones who keep harping on the `injustice to Muslims` . They, obviously have their vested interests. The sooner the Muslim community woke up to this fact, the better for them and the motherland.

It is very heartening to listen to Maulana Mahmood Madani`s comment. The Congress Party needs to realize that fear mongering and vote bank politics will no longer work on the minority communities. The younger generation is more educated and qualified to decipher the truth. Crying wolf too often is coming to haunt the Congress propaganda machine. Now that the Muslim community has the cruel joke that has been played on it all this while by the Congress Party let us Indians hope the other minorities, too, will begin to realize the emptiness of the Congress calling itself Secular.

It is high time that people of this country, Muslims in particular, realise that the Congress `SELF PROCLAIMED SO CALLED SECULAR` Party and Govt has been the most communal of all the parties. If anyone goes into the history of TURKMAN GATE in Delhi, and the Family planning cases in UP during Emergency, one will come to know what all was done to the Muslims. I don`t want to elaborate on that. It is all on the net. Muslims should realise now and enjoy in future by giving BJP at least one chance to prove their secular claims. Unless the Muslims give the BJP the necessary chance, they will not be able to prove anything.

Mahmood Madani’s views are appreciable. Hope all muslim brothers and sisters realise that India is a place where they are most safe provided they all think they are all Indians first. India is truly a secular country and BJP is also the best secular party which believes in India`s safety and welfare of all its people irrespective of religion, caste or any other such narrow domestic walls created by some selfish people. Muslims kill muslims in so-called Islamic countries. India believes in pluralistic societies. Let this be a turning point in India`s history. God bless all to live in peace and harmony. India should become an ideal/model country for the world.
