New Delhi: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee
feels that the leaders of his generation "can`t be sticking to
the wicket for too long" and it is time they "vacate" their
places for the new generation.
Mukherjee made this comment at a function where he was
asked whether it was true that he would not contest elections
"Provided the grand children come back from their studies
in the UK... I don`t know what decision they will take because
they will be grown up in next four years," the Congress leader
said in response at a CNN-IBN function.
The 75-year-old leader added, "but one thing what would
be my age in 2014? I think, I am no different. I am as good or
as bad as any other political activist. I am no different."
"Therefore, my simple point is that there should be
opportunities for the new generation to take over. We can`t
keep ourselves sticking to the wicket for too long. It is time
we should vacate our places."
