New Delhi: A delegation of students and
Congress workers from the Northeast will call on Prime
Minister Manmohan Singh tomorrow to seek his intervention in
ensuring safety of the students from the region.
"We will meet the Prime Minister tomorrow to apprise him
about the problems being faced by the students from the region
in the city. We will also seek his intervention in ensuring
safety and security of our students," General Secretary of the
Northeast Congress Committee Sharif Laskar said.
Laskar had earlier led a delegation of students from the
region to Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi who had
assured them of full support.
"The Prime Minister represents Assam in Parliament. We
hope he would understand the grievances of the students from
the region and do the needful," he said.
The murder of a teenaged Naga girl from Manipur last
month allegedly by an IIT Phd scholar is snowballing into a
major issue, triggering widespread protests by students from
the region.
