New Delhi: A day after the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) declared Gujarat Chief Minister and party’s poll panel chief Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate, Lok Sabha MPs Sushma Swaraj and Ananth Kumar met party patriarch LK Advani at his residence on Saturday.
Efforts are being made to pacify the veteran BJP leader as the decision to name Modi as the prime ministerial candidate was against his wishes.
After meeting the veteran leader, Sushma said that “no one is upset.”
Opposing Modi’s anointment as the prime ministerial candidate, Advani was noticeably absent from the party’s parliamentary board meeting. He also wrote a letter to party’s national president Rajnath Singh on Friday expressing his displeasure over Singh’s style of functioning.
"I had expressed my pain to you and I am disappointed with the way you are running the party,” he wrote.
However, despite stiff opposition, his protégé was named as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate isolating Advani in the party he co-founded in 1980.
Advani had been vocal against Modi’s appointment as the PM candidate and even resigned from all his party posts protesting against his appointment as poll panel chief in June this year.
Despite Advani’s opposition, Modi thanked him in his speech after his appointment and even visited him at his residence.
